\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0On December 14, 1947, Bill France Sr. organized a meeting in Daytona Beach, Florida, and the future of stock car racing was born \u2013 the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR). <\/span><\/h4>\n

A speedway construction plan began on April 4, 1953, when Bill France Sr. proposed to build a permanent speedway facility due to the rapid growth of population and race crowds.<\/span><\/h4>\n

The following year on August 16, 1954, Bill France Sr. signed a contract with the City of Daytona Beach and Volusia County to build the \u201cWorld Center of Racing\u201d also known as the Daytona International Speedway. <\/span><\/h4>\n

In 1959, racing moved from a beach-road course to the Daytona International Speedway.<\/span><\/h4>\n

The first Daytona 500 took place on February 22, 1959, with a crowd over 41,000.<\/span><\/h4>\n

In 1961, the Daytona 200 motorcycle race was moved from the beach to the Speedway.<\/span><\/h4>\n

In July 2013, a renovation project turned this facility into a state-of-the-art motorsports facility costing $400 million.<\/span><\/h4>\n

In May 2016, the Daytona Speedway was awarded the \u201cSports Business Award\u201d for Sports Facility of the Year<\/em> by Sports Business Journal.
